I meant to get to one of the WorldCon bid parties last night, but I laid down to rest for a bit and didn’t wake up until past 1am. At that point, all I could do was crawl into bed!
My Buddy, My Beta – Meriah Lysistrata Crawford, James Morrow, Aly Parsons, Jim Stratton
I could have been on this panel! It was rather evenly divided between people who thought that spouses and family can make good beta readers and those who believed otherwise.
Wold Wrap-Up — Allen Wold, Darcy Wold
This was a followup on Saturday’s workshop. About half the participants showed up, and we read our revised hooks to each other and discussed them. There were some phenomenally talented people in the room!
Too Detailed — David Louis Edelman, Jennifer Pelland, Hildy Silverman
Info-dump! How much detail do you like? Some folks thrive on Tolkien-esque levels of detail, while one panelist was never able to finish any of his books.
Stories in a Series — Brenda Clough, Sam Lubell, Lawrence Watt-Evans
The panelists mostly discussed what to do with stories that are set in an already-established world. They never did discuss how to make them intelligible to people who are new to it.
And that, as they say, was that. A long-ish drive home, and I’m ready to tuck myself into bed. G’night!
