Stopped Short

I don’t have writer’s block (or is that writers’ block?). Far from it

But Daughters of Suralia may never see the light of day.

Why? Well, there’s just too much wrong with it. I may have to change the timeline. There are parts of it I’m still enchanted with — Storaas will get his day in the sun — but… I have to think about the rest of it, rip the guts out and put it back together.

Meanwhile, a story that started life as a 100-word-or-less story opener for a writers’ workshop is growing into something more interesting. Part of it is going to MisCon with me in May. That should be a lot of fun.

The rest of it is turning into a coming-of-age tale that takes place shortly after Adm. Howard gets kicked out of Tolari space.

And the first half of book 3 is also starting to take shape. This is something of a relief, because it had been worrying at me. The second half of book 3 has been written for… something like 6 months. The first half had been stubbornly refusing to be born. It seems to have changed its mind about that. Thank goodness.

I wonder what I can do to whack Daughters into some semblance of a reasonable story.

I’ll keep you posted.
