Word, Interrupted

So I just posted this status update on Facebook:

“At irregular intervals, Word decides that every word I’ve told it to ignore is suddenly a gross violation of the order of the universe and underlines them all in red again. At that point, I must go to each word and tell it, AGAIN, to ignore this word, yes THIS word, as if it were a small child.

*wishes she could give the Microsoft Word devs a piece of her mind*”

Actually, if I could talk to the Word devs, what I’d ask for is a right-click option that says, “Ignore all instances of this word until the heat death of the universe.” But that’s just because when I tell Word to ignore a word it thinks is misspelled, it will up and decide (like it did this morning) to ignore my ignore and fill my MS with squiggly red lines again.

Which, because I have synesthesia, drives me crazy (red is LOUD), so I have to get rid of them.

Again.

I am actually a good speller, but spell check is still a convenient way of catching all the instances of “the the” and “was was” as I go, as well as the odd times when my fingers type whatever-the-heck they want (their/they’re/there) (you’re/your) (it’s/its), and so on. I really don’t want to turn the spell checker off, and I really don’t want to add things to my dictionary like “hev” (when Laura stammers on the word “hevalrin”) or “Gah!” (when an apothecary’s potion tastes bad).

All I want is for Microsoft Word to actually, you know, IGNORE something after I select “Ignore all” from the right-click menu. Is that really so much to ask?
