I finally got through the second scene of chapter 21. It took three tries to find the right point-of-view character, and the one that worked might not be the best one, but it works, and that means I can move on. I might go back and rewrite the scene again later (the next draft is going to be a pretty substantial edit), but for now, the climax is building, and I’m getting antsy to write it.

Today, my mother would be 80 years old, if she were still with us. May she rest in peace.

The picture below was taken in the early 50’s, when she was a student at St. Anne’s Hospital School of Nursing. I think it was her graduation picture, which puts it at 1954. In it, Mom had to have had a perm, because I know her (ash brown) hair was baby fine and straight as a string. Her eyes were blue. That thick layer of lipstick was probably red.
